In defense of TAPS

I have to hand it to SciFake.Com - They admitted to being wrong on a particular instance of having called TAPS out for supposedly faking evidence. I do believe that they are trying to do a service with their site but they really need to approach all claims from a more balanced perspective.

In the law and in scientific endeavor, facts are what guides us and not an intent to prove that which cannot be proven. As my earlier article asserts, TAPS cannot afford to give the paranormal community a black-eye and it makes no sense for them to do so. While I don't totally agree with their methods, SciFake.com stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. The content of their apology is reproduced below.

Scifake has written several articles in regards to TAPS and the alleged manufacturing of evidence. However, sometimes we need to write an article that offers a balance and this is the perfect article. MacNeil House Leigh MacNeil (MacNeil House episode) alleged wrong doing by SyFy (TAPS) when the team investigated his home in April. When Scifake interviewed Mr. MacNeil he was kind; however, adamant that maybe a team member of TAPS (or SyFy) tampered with his clock radio (e.g., set the alarm to go off at 2 AM). However, clearly you can see Kris Williams is only attempting to reset the clock (actual radio to right) and this is why the time reads midnight (12 AM) and the alarm possibly has a default time of 2AM? And this is why the alarm was activated at 2AM. Here's our analysis of what happened and it has NO bearing on Mr. MacNeil. We still content Mr. MacNeil is kind and generous; however, he may a little over zealous trying to prove fakery and he may have allowed his emotions to cloud common sense. When Kris ran to the top of the stairs (to see full episode see article http://scifake.com/?p=1906) to investigate the clock radio she (or a staff member) unplugged the radio to make it quite quickly. I'm sure many of us have tried unsuccessfully to quite an alarm (hitting buttons etc) without success because it was a new device and pulling the plug (or throwing it against the wall) was the only quick solution. Upon pulling the plug, the time is set to a default time (after plugging back in) of midnight (12 AM) automatically and the alarm has a possible default time of 2 AM. So, the clock (JVC) was moved by a staff member and in order to move the radio from the dresser to the center of the room it had to be unplugged. After moving the radio to the center of the room, the staff set the correct time (after plugging the clock back in) and unbeknownst to the staff member the alarm was set back to the default time at 2 AM! Sorry, we believe (it pains me to say this) TAPS did nothing wrong in this instance only. Watch for yourself.
